Last Week in Congress (8/10–8/15/26)
An update will be shared every week that Congress is in session. This will include a short summary of the past week in Congress, as well as a listing of all education-related bills introduced in the House and Senate, relevant Committee and Floor activity, and education-related hearings.
Both the House and Senate are in recess, which means Washington is pulling the Magic 8-Balls out of our dusty childhood closets and trying to predict what’s coming next.
The big questions? Appropriations and the midterms.
At this point, it looks increasingly likely that we’ll be operating under another continuing resolution (CR). But that raises some very consequential questions:
Will the CR include the proposed delay to the Uniform Guidance changes?
Will the larger Senate package include the Kaine-Collins-Murkowski provision prohibiting the transfer of certain Department of Education offices and programs?
And, of course, what else gets tucked into the legislation before Congress heads back to town?
August recess is usually a good time to take a breath. This year, it feels more like the calm before the legislative storm.

· H.R. 10085 (Davis, D-NC), the Lifelong Learning Act, to amend the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act to permit greater flexibility in carrying out incumbent worker training programs (Education and Workforce).
· H.R. 10090 (Hageman, R-WY), to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to impose an excise tax on certain institutions of higher education that allow male participation in female intercollegiate athletic programs or events (Ways and Means).
· H.R. 10097 (Lee, D-NV), to establish a matched savings program for low-income students (Education and Workforce).
